media's true colors
..... media paints the world .....

This sums it all up.

Summing up all the things that I have learned from this Media Awareness project will be very hard for me. What I am going to say maybe common and ordinary reasons, but these are really the learning I got. First – Learn to respect and accept others’ opinions. Everyone has the right to express their feelings. They may be negative to you, but believe me; it will help you to be better in the future. Second – Be honest and be true. Do not give out comments that are not really meant because it looks like you only comment because you NEED to give out one. Remember to be very “you” and be very true. Lastly – You can start within yourselves for your own control is in your hands. You have the control and decision if you will give in to the influence of media, which we all know that it plays a big role in our generation, or set your limits and strictly follow it.

I am happy for I have passed this challenge but at the same time, I feel sad because this will be the last time that I will be saying these words – Thank you for spending time to read my entries and for putting a comment.

Sunsilk Commercials.

“Stand out the crowd. Stand out. Let the world know who you are.” It is not only about the pink concept. It is about how they made that pink concept stand out from the others.

These commercials really have a lot to say. It shows that not only men can bring glory to our country. Even in the sport that we expect to be played by men, women can do too. One of them that made a difference was Gabby de la Merced (I hope I spelled her name correctly), a certified and known female racer.

I admire these commercials because they help in the understanding of the people that women are not ONLY women (Let us remember that there are times that people depend on women too). We also have our stand in the society and we should not be stereotyped and underestimated by others, especially by men. We are also contributing in the progress and we should be credited for that.

Let us remember that there are also things that only women can do. Men and Women should have equal privileges.

We stand out the crowd because we make differences that is why the world knows who we are.

Roxanne Ginoo: the new covert girl.

Girls gone wild. She is now one of them.

Roxanne Ginoo is from the first batch of Star Circle Quest also known as SCQ, a reality show where in the contestants compete for the luxury of being a celebrity. She is known for her excellent skills in acting back them when she was still starting. She is also known to be one of the most conservative contestants back then. She admits that she is not allowed to wear daring outfits because her parents think that it is not proper for a teenager.

Let us take a look at this magazine cover. I saw this, together with Fiona Gali, when we were buying something for our investigatory project at SM Supermarket. The magazine is placed near the counters where everybody can see.

When I saw this magazine cover, I was shocked to see her wearing only that. I knew her to be a very conservative lady especially when it comes to clothing. Taking also into consideration that she is only in her early 20’s or under 20 is I am not mistaken. I also noticed that sooner or later everyone is taking this path of show business even at an early age.

Respecting your whole personality also means respecting your body.

Super Noypi.

They saved the day. Yes, they are super heroes and they are Filipino Superheroes.

There are a lot to say about this film. First of all, it is obvious that it is made here in the Philippines. From the special effects, to the setting, to the production design. There is still somethingmissing about animated films, Filipino-made animated films. In this movie, it is obvious that we still lack technology in making animated films. Of course, money would be a lot of this matter which we all know that we do not have much.

This is the matter about us Filipinos. We tend to criticize movies like these because of its being “low-class” compared to Hollywood films. We even, most of the time do not “waste” time to watch Filipino movies because we think that it is “low-quality”. This attitude causes our Filipino directors to receive no income which leads to losing their jobs because no one appreciates their works. After this, what can we expect from our movie industry, but “low-quality” films because we do not support Filipino films and continue to be slaves of piracy.

Let us, at least try, to support Filipino movies and let us just hope for progress.

Dove commercial.

“So don’t be afraid to let them show, your true colors…”

When I saw this television commercial, I was struck with the message. From the nationalities of the girls to the messages they are showing. The message of the TVC is true indeed. Aren’t we alarmed that at a very young age, many girls are conscious about their physical appearance especially their skin color? These little girls should not be having a problem about how they look for they have a tendency to grow with that mentality. They should feel that their God-given looks are blessings and not something to be embarrassed and ashamed of. We can help these girls feel their best without having to undergo these uncomfortable feelings. We can help by starting with ourselves. Let us live simply. Let us be contented with what God gave us. These are the best possessions we have for these are molded by God’s hands.

“You’re beautiful, like a rainbow…”

Coca-Cola magazine ad.

On the radio, on the television, and now, in the magazine too. It is just getting more and more colorful everywhere.

I have seen this page in different magazines, maybe two to three times now. And it never failed to “Wow!” me everytime I see this. in case you still have not seen this certain ad, let me describe it to you. The whole page is black and the lyrics of the song, which was sung by sandwich, was printed in different colors and fonts. It is very attractive, for me, because it is very colorful. Under also the lyrics was a bottle of coke where the lyrics came from.

This magazine ad is just one of the ads that does not use pornographic materials. I admire this particular ad because it can attract people’s attention without using things that are not minor-friendly. I salute Coca-Cola for never failing to give us a great and a the same time, a decent ad. I hope this strategy will continue.

“Buhay Coke, buksan mo..”

Pinoy Big Brother Season 2

The mysterious voice is going to be heard again. Not once, but for a couple of months. And yes, it is bigger house and a bigger group. And to add to this, another rising band sings the theme song.

Not long ago that the yellow and blue painted house opened its doors again to a new set of housemates. I think that I will like this edition or season because I liked the episode when I first watched. One thing that I will admire is the physical appearance of the house. All the furniture looks very nice with the colors of the walls, the ceiling and the like. I will give them credit for that for they never failed to make the house look nicer and nicer every time they open a new edition or season.

Of course, that is not the only thing I like about Pinoy Big Brother. They display lessons in life that is really helpful. That is why the show is SOMEWHAT safe for the kids to watch. It is more than what we see, it is about what we will get and learn from the reality show.

U Can Dance 2.

It is back. It is faster, livelier and more competitive. The ABS – CBN channel 2 network will soon present, again, their reality dance show to us. Still having Iya Villania and Derek Ramsey as the show’s main hosts, they promised to show their viewers more exciting episodes, more star-studed segments and a more intense competition.

I personally watch U Can Dance back then when they were still airing the first season. I like how they popularize and how they introduce to their viewers the different dances. They were showcasing back then ballroom, break dance, hip-hop and a lot more. I suggest that they add more categories besides ballroom by partners, and hip-hop and break dance done by group. I admire this reality dance show for they continue to promote dance in the country.

This will be aired, according to the network, soon, very very soon.

Let your body and your feet do all the talking.

Introduction.

This will be the last time that I will be posting entries. It will also be the last time for your comments to be seen.

In this final quarter, I decided not to choose a specific theme. I experienced in the last two quarters that choosing a theme limits my variety of choices.

Once again, I am entitled to my own opinion that is why I can freely criticize things in this media log. Some may agree with my opinion and some may not. Same with me, you can freely say whatever you are thinking through putting a comment about my entries. I would accept and respect whatever you have to say hoping that you will also be able to accept and respect mine too.

Thank you and God bless. Have a nice day.

Pano Nangyari yon?

Funny and hilarious.

It took me years before I got the chance to watch this video. I was able to see this video in Myx. At first, what got my attention was mainly the song. When I heard it on the radio, I started to wait for the music video. The video is very funny. The way how they imitated the bands like, Hale, Sandwich and Kitchie Nadal really caught me. I just hope they did not offend the real bands.

For me, it is okay to imitate other bands as long as your intentions are good. it should be not to hurt others or make fun of them in a bad and rude way. It should be mainly for fun and nothing else.

Future.

This music video proved that rock stars are more than just the front mans and musicians, they can also be an instrument in helping promote an Anti-aids/HIV campaign. They can be as useful and as meaningful as these.

It is more that the black, red and white concept of the video that caught my attention. It is the idea that they put up different bands and solo artists to help promote an anti-aids/HIV campaign. Not to mention the lyrics of the songs, how the instruments are played and most of all, the setting and the concept. Something again to commend for.

It is good to see the effort of the people involved in helping to promote life. They used their name and fame in a good, useful and selfless way. They all cooperated for a good cause. I hope that this video will be a good step in helping the affected.

We all have the right to stay alive.

Nothin In This World.

The only thing that looked good in this music video was Paris Hilton’s shoes. The ones in back and white. Nothing more.

I really do not find the video pleasing. The fact that in most parts of the video, Paris is somehow like, seducing the boy. I also do not find it right that most of the time, you are day dreaming about Paris, for instance. At school, at home and even while walking down the street. And you do not need Paris, for instance, to gain respect in your school campus. And peeking on Paris, for instance, wearing only her bra is bad. I do not know, but for me, this video is setting a bad image. The only thing I understand about this video is insanely fantasizing Paris Hilton, for instance. Remember, too much of everything, as we all know, is bad.

Piracy renders Artists Voiceless.

True indeed.

Have you ever passed through these words in Myx? I do. And whenever I see this, it makes me feel the impact stronger and stronger every time. I do not have to explain further that sentence because it already said it all.

Let us be mature people. We demand for great songs and great artists but we are the ones making them lose their jobs because we keep on practicing piracy. It is better to help them raise the music industry. If we continue on practicing piracy, it is not only them that lose their jobs, we would also lose good quality music. No one wants that to happen. Let us not allow piracy to render our respected artists voiceless.

Coca-Cola.

This commercial gave me the chills. The two of my favorite things in life is included here!

It is only in the radio when I first heard the latest Coca-Cola jingle. And yes, it is one of my favorite bands, Sandwich! And another yes, they are singing a jingle for the best drink in the world ever made! That radio commercial definitely clicked to me. When I saw the commercial, no wonder I screamed. Again, the animation is very catchy, attractive, fun to watch and very colorful and pleasing to the eyes. I would like to comment on the lyrics of the song because it does not have to use foul words to give meaning to the song. the television commercial as a whole is unique since it used cartoons and real people at the same time.

Another great creation from Coca-Cola. Coca-cola never fails to give us good and refreshing drinks and unique commercials.

Coca-Cola.

So, that is how vendo machine with Coca-Cola drinks works?

First of all, I would like to commend the animation. It was nicely done. Definitely two thumbs up to me. I also think that this television commercial achieved and gained everyone’s attention. Especially the kids because it is in cartoon form that Is why it is not harmful or harsh for them to watch. This television commercial found no need to use violent and immature awys to promote their product. That is something to praise them for.

It is sad that they cut the commercial and it is rarely comes out now a days. I hope that the upcoming commercials would not be of violent and harsh acts. It should be something appealing and attracting to the eyes of the viewers but not depicting violence, especially to the kids.

DVDX.

Another music video from Sandwich that is worth it to watch. I believe they are successful in promoting the “No to Piracy” campaign in this video.

I first saw this video in Myx Premiere. The best part of the video for me is the chorus. that is where the camera flashes the members of Sandwich in a fast pace singing the lyrics of the chorus. Very catchy. The appearance of Edu Manzano, chairman of ORB, is a twist in the video and since the title of the song is DVDX, I hope it is because they want to promote the “No to Piracy” campaign. this is where I first saw Mong, the band’s lead guitarist, turn his guitar around his body. Pretty amazing skill.

I am absolutely looking forward to their next music video.

Sugod.

The best music video ever produced. All hail to this music video.

I just do not know why the music video of “Sugod”, sung by Sandwich, is very appealing to me. I think that the setting of the video is very attractive because different neon lights were used. I like the background as well as the logo that can be seen on the bass drum. In fact, if I am not mistaken, this video already won best music video of the year in the MTV Music Awards and in the NU Rock Awards. Of course, credits go to the director. I also like the way how each member of the band passes from one side of the camera to the other side of the camera while playing their instruments. Their costumes are also of praise. All in all, this video from Sandwich is something I will always wait for in music channels.

Introduction.

Belated Merry Christmas to all and a Happy New Year.

In this quarter, the second to the last quarter of the year, should I say, I decided to tackle television commercials, music videos and those friendly reminders that can be seen on music channels. I wish to discuss the different effects, how it was directed and the like. I would also give comments on the commercial or video as a whole. Do expect that not all comments from me are pleasing and positive. Some may be negative which can hurt others or which some can disagree on. My intentions for doing such are only for the better. Please understand that I also have the right to say and express my opinions. I hope you will enjoy reading my future and upcoming entries and I would appreciate if you would comment. Wrap it up.

To end this hectic and short quarter, I would say that I have realized a lot of things. Hardwork, determination to go on with your dreams and patience are some of the attitudes you have to have to reach the top.

Let us be considerate about the hardwork put to be able to give us quality music. Let us not support piracy. Otherwise, we are the ones who will suffer. Not all albums are given the chance to be recognized, so let us support them by respecting both the album and the artist.

I enjoyed this quarter even if it is hectic as I said. The one thing I admire about bands is that, they are all together in sucking and they are all together in being the real rockstars. I hope and I insist that that is always the case.

I hope that you enjoyed reading my entries. I appreciate if you are one of the people who commented (if there are any). I will try my best to think for a more interesting theme for you guys, do not worry. Thank you again and God bless to you all.

Callalilly.

Definitely one of the youngest and most wanted bands in the Philippines.

Callalilly is one of the hottest local bands. No doubt about that. This band is mostly made up of UST college students. They consist of Tatsy on rhythm guitar, Aaron on bass from UST, Lemuel on drums from UST, Alden from UST on lead guitar and the handsome vocalist, Kean from UST.

Their debut single, Stars, as we all know is very popular, I mean VERY POPULAR. You will hear this morning, afternoon. I admire this young band because at their young age, they were able to already make a successful album. Guys that are 18 and 19 years old, beat that! It is true, the future is our generation. I just hope that what I heard about their studies, that some of them already dropped from school, is not true.

I hope that we will have bands like Callalilly. It's good that behind every string strummed, lyrics sang and drum hit, there is a dream that keeps you going on.

Parokya Ni Edgar.

They are very much known for their unique and extraordinary songs. Actually, Parokya Ni Edgar is my favorite band.

They have already made numerous albums and they are definitely a somebody in the music industry. Parokya Ni Edgar is made up of Dindin on drums, Buwi on bass, Gab on rhythm, Darius on lead guitar and Chito on vocals. The have already made an identity.

About their songs, no questions ask about how the instruments are played. Two thumbs up. Stage presence, another two thumbs up. They know how to hype up their crowd. About the lyrics of most of their songs, that is where I would not agree. Most of their songs contain senseless messages. They use unnecessary foul words that makes the song more senseless. Still, many support them. I hope that they will be focusing more on the more meaningful songs.

Ultraelectromagnetic Jam.

Is it really early for a tribute to them as most of us say?

It is just last year that Ultraelectromagnetic Jam came out. It was sung and revised by bands namely 6 CycleMind, Imago, Southborder and Radioactive Sago Project. Kitchie Nadal, Barbie Almalbis and Paolo Santos are just some of the solo artists. Some of the songs are Pare Ko, Ligaya, Overdrive and Para sa Masa which was sung by all of the artists and bands included in the album. Personally, I liked the album. It is a total package and a great deal too. In fact, the Ultraelectromagnetic Jam was the one who introduced me more to the Eraserheads. Too sad, I still do not have a copy of the album.

Come to think of it, is it the right time to give the Eraserheads a tribute album? I will leave you that question.

Kami Napo Muna

The music lives on. They will never be forgotten.

Of course, who is not familiar with the Apo Hiking Society? They have proved themselves up to now. The album, "Kami Napo Muna", is definitely a hit. If I am not mistaken, the album already reached Platinum. For me, it is good to know that people respect them by still giving good feedbacks on their songs. Some of the bands who revived their songs were Imago, Spongecola, Parokya ni Edgar, Rocksteddy, Sugarfree, Drip, The Dawn, and Itchyworms. Barbie Almalbis and Kitchie Nadal are also in the album. I think that having the generation's bands revive their songs is a sign of recognition to them. The revived songs as well were played with respect that made it sound very appealling to the people, especially to me.

Again, I am going to say this, let us not support piracy. Let us be considerate about the hard work that was put to make this album. Let us support them so that they will continue to give us quality music.

Five on the Floor

It is all worth it. I am telling you.
This album "Five on the Floor" by the band, Sandwich, is really a great deal. Besides the 15 cool stickers, I can say that the songs are very well played with meaning. I also praise the physical appearance of the album. They dominantly used only 3 colors but they were ablt to make an extraordinary design out of it. I admire the lyrics of the songs because it is not senseless and they did not need to use foul words. Of course, no doubt about how the instruments were played. From the guitar solos to the drum rolls, I cannot just help but sit and listen. Well, I can say that the album is worth its price. Come on, let us not buy pirated CDs. Let us be considerate about the hard work of everybody just to put up a good album. They need our support to be able to continue on giving us great music.

Awit ng Barkada

In times of problems or in times of victories, this song suits it all.

Whether it is sung by the original, the Apo Hiking Society or the Itchyworms, the wonderful message of the song stays the same. The song is mainly about how friends stay together no matter what happens.

I admire this song. I also kept on listening to this song when I first heard it. I remember the time when one of my friends was having problems with something, this song made her realize that she is not alone and that she always has us with her. The Itchyworms was able to make the song happier to listen to. They made the song more meaningful by playing and interpreting it very well. They were able to give the song justice.

I hope that they continue to compose songs like this. Even if the Itchyworms only revived the song, in my opinion, they did it very well with respect both to the song and to the composers, the Apo Hikinh Society.

Eraserheads

Even if they disbanded a long time ago, their songs never failed to be recognized until today.

They are definitely one of my favorite bands. the Eraserheads consists of Ely Buendia, Buddy Zabala, Raimund Marasigan and Marcus Adoro. Most of their songs have meaningful lyrics which makes them stuck in your head singing. They were on their peak and suddenly decided to disband. To add to that, we were not able to really see and hear them play as a band. It is sad that when they disbanded, no one really knows the exact reason why. i am one of the people who, until today asks why do they have to decide on that. Nevertheless, as we say, everything must move on.

Now, we can see Raimund Marasigan and Ely Buendia, and if I am not mistaken, Buddy Zabala in their new bands namely Sandwich, Pupil, and The Dawn. I just hope that they will all talk this over to fix whatever needs to be fixed.

Wrap it up, baby!

It’s been almost a month and I never thought that this would be fun.

Every time I decide about what entry to make, the parts of my mind fight over the choices, the many, many, many choices. I experienced talking to myself about how people would react to what I post on my media log. Nevertheless, I really had fun doing my media log.

I know my entries this quarter is somehow not related to each other but the message of all the entries are the same – that media is very influential in our time. I noticed too that most feelings are easily expressed through media. I just hope that we could still balance everything. As we are all familiar to the saying, “Too much is enough”, I think it is proper to apply that today.

I hope that you were able to enjoy reading my entries. Don’t worry, there is to come in the second quarter.

Vince's Life.

Now I believe that love starts with friendship.

Actually, I bought this book for my reading report last year. I, talking about cramming that time, I bought this book because it was thin and small. To tell you, the author is a Filipino as well as the characters.

Anyway, the story of the book is revolving between Vince and Andrea who used to be very good friends in the start. As you turn the pages, you will see that Vince is finally getting courage to tell Andrea what he really feels from the start. Turn more pages and you will find out that………… I left it for you to find out. *smiles*

At first, the whole reason I bought this is for my reading report only. The more time I spent reading it, the more I am getting interested to it. The love story is not the typical one because it has a lot of twists. For me, this is the kind of book wherein you’ll say, “Aaaaawww, kakakilig naman.” After I read the whole book, I told my friends that this particular book by Vince O. Teves was really something worth reading. It is good to know that stories written by Filipinos give the same excitement like the books written by foreign authors. We can give recognition to Filipino authors by simply reading their book. I know that it can mean a lot to them.
